DISCOVER YOUR LIFE CONFIDENCE ZONES (3/8)

Do you feel as if you are living your life half full? This may be directly related to how confident you feel in different areas of your life.

Confidence is defined as having “belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities.” Confidence in action is having trust and belief in the decisions and choices you make and faith in the actions that follow. However, low confidence in one area of life can negatively impact the level of confidence in other areas. For example, if one is not confident in their career, then the residual effect may be reduced confidence in our personal relationships and financial security. It may be hard to accept invitations to dine out with friends if you’re insecure about where your next paycheck is coming from.

It is important to single out where those low confidence zones are and draw inspiration, insight and direction from areas where your confidence is high.

The Wheel of Life is a common coaching tool used when individuals need some clarity on the areas of their life which may be giving them the most challenge.

Below are tips on how you can get a birds eye view of your high and low confidence zones using the Wheel of Life.

  1. First, draw a pie chart or wheel and divide it into sections for each area of life you feel is most important to build confidence. Generally, you will have eight to 11 areas. Sample life confidence zones include: family, friends/social life, self-image, business/career and studies, finances/wealth, health/fitness, spiritual growth, personal growth, home/personal space and safety, contribution to society/life purpose, romance/love, recreation/fun, etc. There are no wrong or right areas that you need to include. 2. Second, ask yourself: “How confident am I that I am living the life I desire in/with (insert confidence zone)? Take a look at your diagram and on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being “not confident at all,” to 10 being “extremely confident,” rate how confident are you in each of the eight to eleven areas? Please place your number directly in the space provided for each category. Be completely honest with yourself so that you can identify the areas most needing attention and set goals to build confidence in the key areas of your life.

  3. Next, outside of each area, write down the percentage of time each week you invest in that zone. Don’t worry if there is overlap.

After scoring each area draw a new perimeter representing your personal Wheel of Life. If this were a real wheel, how bumpy would the ride be? Is your life out of balance because of confidence drains or lack of self-belief and poor decision making in those areas?

Put today’s date on this exercise and repeat the exercise 6 months from now to see your progress. Following on from this self-reflection, you can utilize this exercise to further delve into why your wheel of life looks the way it does, what you would like your wheel of life to look like, and further explore how to make it happen. We included a current look at your time investment in each of these zones as a starting point to ask further questions.
